Cyclone Francisco hit the island of Kyushu in southern Japan on Saturday, with devastating winds and heavy rain accompanying the cancellation of some 160 flights.

Japan’s Meteorological Agency said the eye of the storm was over Hitoyoshi at 7 am local time, heading northwest at 25 km with winds of up to 180 km / h and gusts of 144 km / h.

The agency warned that the storm could cause tsunamis up to 9 meters high around southern Kyushu, and issued stern warnings against storms, high waves, landslides caused by heavy rains and river floods.
